A History of World’s Civilizations

课程描述：

  本课程以马克思主义历史唯物主义为指导，探讨和反思全人类的主要文明的历史进程和相关的重大事件，以及这些进程和事件对我们现今人类世界的影响。通过一个学期32学时的课堂讲授、课后讨论，以及更多时间的课后阅读、思考、研究和作业，学生应当学会用历史唯物主义的观点和方法，学习、研究和掌握：人类历史中不同文明的产生、发展、甚至衰亡的前因后果；对人类历史有着重大影响的价值观念、思想观念、科学发现、技术发明、商业和社会制度的创新是如何产生、发展并塑造了当代人类世界的；世界各个文明的兴衰、相互影响、并交替主导世界文明的发展的背后原因；为什么中华文明在整个世界文明中是唯一的五千年没有中断并且一直延续至今的原创文明，当代人可以从中得到什么样的教训和启迪。

  This course is guided by Marxist historical materialism and explores and reflects on the historical processes and significant events of human civilization. It also examines the impacts of these processes and events on our current human world. Through 32 hours of classroom teaching, post-class discussions, and additional time for post-class reading, thinking, researching, and assignments, students will learn to use the perspective and methods of historical materialism to study and master the following topics:  the causes and effects of the emergence, development, and even decline of different civilizations in human history; how the innovation of values, ideas, scientific discoveries, technological inventions, business, and social systems that had a significant impact on human history emerged, developed, and shaped the contemporary human world; the reasons behind the rise and fall, mutual influence, and alternating domination of different civilizations in the world, and; why Chinese civilization is the only original civilization in the entire world that has not been interrupted for five thousand years and has continued to this day. What kind of lessons and enlightenment can contemporary people derive from it.
