生物信息学是一个相对较新的跨学科领域,与新兴的数据科学领域重叠和互补。它将计算工具和应用数学与遗传学、分子生物学、生物化学和生理学等生物学研究相结合。生物信息学领域的研究者使用现代计算技术来捕获、解释生物和生物医学数据。生物信息学涉及数据库、算法、计算和统计技术,涉及理论的创建和发展,以解决生物数据管理和分析中出现的问题。研究人员采用数学建模、统计学和数据分析等方法来研究生物系统。他们的工作使医疗突破和医疗保健、治疗和药物开发的创新方法成为可能。

本课程将让学生概述什么是生物信息学,它做什么以及生物信息学工作是什么。我们将关注所学科涉及的重要方面,并反思生物信息学在日常生活中的相关性

Bioinformatics is a relatively new interdisciplinary field that overlaps and complements the emerging field of data science. It combines computational tools and applied mathematics with biological research in genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry and physiology. Researchers in the field of Bioinformatics use modern computational technology to capture and interpret biological and biomedical data. Bioinformatics involves the creation and advancement of databases, algorithms, computational and statistical techniques and theory to solve formal and practical problems arising from the management and analysis of biological data. Researchers implement mathematical modelling, statistics, and data analysis to study biological systems. Their work enables medical breakthroughs and innovative approaches to healthcare, therapy and drug discovery.

This course will give students an overview of what bioinformatics is, what it does and what a bioinformatics job is. We will look at the most important aspects of science involved and reflect on the relevance of bioinformatics in daily life.
