Overview


Ocean University of China, founded in 1924, is a comprehensive university with particular strengths in oceanography and fisheries science, offering courses in science, engineering, agronomy (fisheries), pharmaceutics, economics, management, liberal arts, law, education, and art, united under motto “Ocean embraces all streams, exploring promises reaching far.” In 2017, it was included in China’s plan to build “Double First-Rate” universities, having previously been on the list of “Project 985” universities (a list of China’s top 40 universities) and “Project 211” universities (of China’s top 100 universities).

HAIDE COLLEGE is a joint school between Ocean University of China (OUC) and the University of Adelaide (UoA), commencing in 2020. The Chinese Ministry of Education, in its decree number MOE37AUA02DNR202078N (April 22, 2020), has approved the founding of HAIDE to be housed at Ocean University of China, Qingdao.

  

For the past 96 years, OUC has been serving the local community, and contributing to the wider national and international, public and private sectors through its innovative and leading programmes. The founding of HAIDE comes as an extension of the university efforts to enhance the process of education services through fostering a broader community of graduates equipped with both national and international learning standards.


The University of Adelaide

Founded in 1874, the University of Adelaide is located in the capital city of South Australia (Adelaide is Qingdao’s sister city. Likewise, Shandong Province Qingdao’s home state, and South Australia have been sister states for more than 30 years.), one of the world’s top ten most liveable cities. It is Australia’s third-oldest university and is part of the Group of Eight (Go8) – a coalition of Australia’s top eight leading research-intensive universities. With an international reputation for conducting world-leading research across a wide spectrum of areas, the University is consistently ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide. It is ranked 80 in 2020 US News Global Universities Rankings.

Majority of them are distinguished professors from OUC and UoA, and the faculty of UoA regularly spend semesters teaching in Qingdao.

Research for A Better World


Enhancing research and making research facilities available for students, HAIDE builds a joint Sino-Australian Research Centre based inOUC, and a Smart OceanographyResearch Centreat UoA; working with James Cook University, University of Tasmania, UoA and AEMG (Australia Education Management Group), from marine science to engineering, from our backyard to deepest oceans and seas, with front researchers in a concerted effort, we generate outcomes that make our world better.
