Professor Yeong Yik Sung from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu Visits Ocean University of China

Professor Yeong Yik Sung, Director of the Institute of Climate Adaptation and Marine Biotechnology at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, was invited to visit Ocean University of China (OUC) from 15th to 17th December, 2025, and was appointed as a Guest Professor of the university.


On the morning of December 15, Haide College of Ocean University of China held an appointment ceremony for Guest Professor Yeong Yik Sung. In recognition of his outstanding academic achievements and long-term cooperation with the university, OUC had officially approved and appointed Professor Yeong Yik Sung as guest professor in June 2025 through the application by Haide College. Ms. Ma Yuhong,  Secretary of the Party committee of Haide College, attended the ceremony, together with Professor Dong Ping, Vice Dean of Haide College, Ms. Qi Hua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee  and Vice Dean of Haide College, as well as representatives of faculty and students. The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Wang Hanlin, Vice Dean of the College.


At the ceremony, Ms. Ma Yuhong awarded the letter of appointment as an OUC Guest Professor to Professor Yeong Yik Sung on behalf of the college. Mr. Jie Rongjia, a student representative from the 2024-grade Biotechnology program, pinned the emblem of OUC and the emblem of Haide College for Professor Yeong Yik Sung.


In his address, Mr. Wang Hanlin delivered a warm welcome to Professor Yeong Yik Sung’s visit, introduced the background of OUC and Haide College, outlined the work plans and responsibilities of Professor Yeong’s role as a Guest Professor in teaching, scientific research and international cooperation , and expressed the expectation that he would contribute to the development of the college. Professor Dong Ping introduced Professor Yeong Yik Sung’s research outcomes, academic accomplishments and international influence, expressed gratitude to him for accepting the appointment, and read out the letter of appointment.


Professor Yeong Yik Sung sincerely thanked OUC for the appointment and Haide College for the invitation. He reviewed the long-term scientific research cooperation and exchanges with OUC and expressed his expectation for further in-depth collaboration in the future. After the ceremony, all participants took a group photo to mark the occasion.


On the afternoon of December 17, Professor Yeong Yik Sung delivered an academic lecture entitled Molecular Guardians: Heat Shock Proteins for Stress and Disease Tolerance at the Chinese-style Lecture Hall of Haide College. The lecture was presided over by Associate Professor Xu Zhimeng from Haide College, with faculty and students from Haide College and other relevant colleges in attendance.


Mr. Wang Hanlin, Vice Dean of Haide college, attended the lecture and delivered an address. He thanked Professor Yeong Yik Sung for the academic sharing, and expected that taking this lecture as an opportunity, more support and guidance would be provided for the growth and development of young teachers in the college, so as to further enhance their research capacity and international cooperation.


During the lecture, Associate Professor Xu Zhimeng, Assistant Professor Gao Chen and Assistant Professor Sun Jianhua from Haide College respectively delivered a presentation based on their own research directions, progress and academic achievements, and engaged in-depth exchanges and discussions with Professor Yeong Yik Sung as well as the faculty and students present.


During his visit, Professor Yeong Yik Sung visited the laboratories and teaching areas of Haide College, and the College of Marine Life Sciences, and toured the Marine Science and Technology Exhibition Hall at Laoshan Campus, as well as the Library and Haide Building at West Coast Campus.
