The 2024 Joint Management Committee Meeting of Haide College Held at Ocean University of China

On October 18th, the Joint Management Committee Meeting of Haide College, a Sino-foreign cooperative educational institution between Ocean University of China and The University of Adelaide in Australia, was held at Ocean University of China. Zhang Junfeng, President of OUC and Chair of the Joint Management Committee, and Liu Yong, Vice President of OUC and member of the Joint Management Committee; Jessica Gallagher, Vice President of The University of Adelaide and Deputy Director of the Joint Management Committee, and Suzanne Le Mire, Vice President and member of the Joint Management Committee, attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Liu Yong.

Zhang Junfeng stated at the meeting that the University of Adelaide is one of the most important partners of Ocean University of China. The establishment of Haide College through cooperation is of great significance for enhancing the influence of both universities and improving the quality of talent cultivation. Tremendous efforts and wisdom had been invested in the development of the college, which has achieved fruitful results in talent cultivation. As the college stands at a new developmental starting point after completing its one full academic cycle. Zhang called for both universities to work together, unite and cooperate with a high sense of responsibility and mission to further improve the quality of cooperative education. Looking to the future, he proposed three key goals: Firstly, increase resource sharing to improve the quality of talent cultivation; Secondly, deepen scientific research cooperation and establish an international joint scientific research platform; The third is to strengthen comprehensive communication and perfect the mechanism of joint consultation and decision-making. He expressed his confidence that through the deepened partnership between OUC and the University of Adelaide, Haide College will distinguish itself as a high-quality, exemplary Sino-foreign cooperative educational institution, a globally renowned training base for cultivating internationally oriented compound innovation talent, and an international joint scientific research and innovation platform as soon as possible.

Liu Yong welcomed Jessica Gallagher and her delegation and expressed appreciation for their participation in the meeting. He stated that OUC attaches great importance to the construction of Haide College, investing significant resources in terms of personnel, funding, and facilities. With each task closely interconnected and steadily advanced, the progress was in a positive direction. Haide College has achieved notable success in talent cultivation during its one full academic cycle. He hoped that the meeting would foster stronger communication and collaboration, gather wisdom, and integrate the strengths of both universities to advance pragmatic and in-depth cooperation and accelerate the colleges high-quality development.

Jessica Gallagher expressed her gratitude for the warm reception of OUC and congratulated it on its 100th anniversary. She highlighted the strong development momentum and remarkable achievements of Haide College. the University of Adelaide would continue to be committed to supporting and enhancing the teaching and learning experience of Haide College through providing high-quality courses and sending faculty to teach in China, and will strive to strengthen research cooperation between the two universities. She was full of expectations for the future development of Haide College and welcomed more students to further their studies at the University of Adelaide.

Suzanne Le Mire expressed her gratitude to all staff of both universities who were involved in building Haide College, and  praised the talent and achievements of its students. She reaffirmed that the University of Adelaides dedication to continuously improving teaching and research, as well as enhancing the student experience. She underscored that shaping a bright future for the students of Haide College is a shared goal of both universities.

Wang Min,Dean of Haide College, provided an update on the colleges development over the past year from the aspects of student enrollment, teaching management, student activities, and improvement of teaching conditions. She noted that in 2024, both universities will continue to strengthen faculty exchanges, with an increasing number of the University of Adelaide faculty teaching in China. This has further enhanced the quality of education and the colleges social influence, while also improving the quality of incoming students. The students of the college have performed outstandingly in various fields, winning many international awards and  prizes in national and provincial-level competitions. The first batch of graduates achieved an impressive 71.2% rate of further education, fully reflecting the high-quality international education achievements of the college under the joint support of both universities.

Professor Scott Smith, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology at the University of Adelaide and member of the Joint Management Committee, updated the progress of the merger between the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia. He emphasized that the merger will provide stronger support and resources for the future development of Haide College. Ding Boyin, Academic Director of Haide College, the University of Adelaide and member of the Joint Management Committee, reviewed the progress and achievements of the University of Adelaide in the past year, including the introduced curriculum construction, faculty teaching in China, and training exchanges for OUC faculty visiting the University of Adelaide.

At the meeting, representatives had in-depth discussions on key issues and future work plans, and envisioned further collaboration. From the University of Adelaide: Yan Jiao, Acting Head of School of Chemical Engineering; Gabi Zhao, Global Partnership Officer. From Ocean University of China: Ding Lili, Director of Educational Administration Office; Li Weidong, Director of International Office; Xu Zhiang, Director of Finance Department; Ma Yuhong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Haide College, and other members of the Joint Management Committee and Meeting Representatives attended the meeting. Relevant staff from the University of Adelaides Global Partnership Office and Haide College, OUC, were also present.
