On September 21, 2023, the opening ceremony of 2023 undergraduate students of Haide College of Ocean University of China was held in the lecture hall of Marine Science and Technology Building on Laoshan Campus. Liu Yong, Vice President of Ocean University of China and Nandi Lakshmanan, Head of Global Partnership Department of AEMG Education Group attended the ceremony. Qin Shanghai, Secretary of the Party Committee of Haide College, presided over the ceremony.
On behalf of the school, Liu Yong extended a warm welcome to all the students of Grade 2023 of Haide College. In his speech, he introduced the profound and simple academic tradition of Ocean University of China, as well as the value orientation. He hoped that the students of Haide College could struggle to polish the background color of youth, and strive to grow up to be useful and capable of carrying heavy responsibilities.
University of Adelaide Vice-Chancellor Jessica Gallagher sent a message across the ocean via video message. She introduced the rich learning resources and colorful student activities of the University of Adelaide, and said that Haide College will provide students with a real sense of international education, hope that students in Haide College to study hard, broaden their horizons, learn and succeed.
In his speech, Wang Min, President of Haide College, put forward three expectations to all freshmen: First, they should be concerned about the motherland and shoulder their responsibilities; Second, mind the world and aim high; Third, diligence leads to knowledge and careful thinking. It is hoped that the students will enlarge the pattern, broaden their horizons, put their eyes far away, advance with The Times, and keep the beginning of study; Move forward to the ideal and carry the mission of rejuvenation.
Sun Xun, a teacher of the College of Food Science and Engineering of Ocean University of China, and David Adelson, a professor of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology of the University of Adelaide, spoke at the ceremony as representatives of the teachers. They respectively put forward suggestions on the students' study life and future development, and sent messages to the students to pursue their dreams bravely, take the initiative to study in the university life, and continue to take the initiative.
Tian Shulin, majoring in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (China and foreign cooperation in running schools) in Class 2023 of Haide College, made a vow on behalf of all the new students to strengthen their ideals and beliefs and set up great ambitions and strive to grow into Haide people who take on the great responsibility of national rejuvenation.
