From September 16 to 17, the final final of the 18th Challenge Cup National College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition was held in Guizhou University. As the only team from Ocean University of China selected for the final final, the FluVar team participated in the final final online and won the national third prize.


According to the title Study on Molecular evolution Patterns of highly variable viruses based on Structural and computational models, the team conducted discussion and development, and selected influenza A virus for independent research and exploration. The mutation of highly mutated viruses poses an important challenge to epidemic prevention and control as well as vaccine and drug research and development. For the highly mutated virus, the team used molecular simulation, big data and artificial intelligence technology to establish an effective computational model, and trained and verified the model. The results reveal the molecular evolution pattern and epidemic trend of H1N1 virus, as well as the key drivers of virus evolution, and calculate and simulate the key mutations that may occur in the future of the virus, the effects of mutations on the transmission and immune escape ability of the virus, and the epidemic trend of new mutant strains. In the end, the team produced an application with good visualization and interactivity.

Students from participating schools submitted nearly 2,000 work projects in the special competition, and more than 700 works from more than 230 colleges and universities across the country were shortlisted for final approval. In the final examination, 105 grand prizes, 122 first prizes, 132 second prizes and 140 third prizes were awarded.
