On the afternoon of May 25th, the academic lecture Seeking the Sea is Seeking the Sea to benefit the Country was successfully held in the teaching Area 4501. Professor Wang Min, Dean of HaideCollege, was invited as the keynote speaker. Professor Liang Yantao and Dr. Yang Yang of the School of Marine Life were the guest speakers. Mr. Wang began by telling the students about the valiant responsibilities and outstanding contributions of the people of Hai University in building China into a maritime power. He also shared with the students the academic experience, scientific research stories and outstanding achievements of Academicians Guan Huashi, Academicians Maconson, Academicians Bao Zhenmin and Song Microwaves, conveying to the students the spirit of the four academicians who are committed to serving the country.

  

Secondly, Wang Min introduced his personal research work on floating viruses in the ocean, showing the important role of viruses in the flow of matter and energy and the diversity of species in the ocean. He also showed the research arrangement of his research team on viruses in the seven oceans and four continents around the world. Wang Min then led the students to have an in-depth understanding of the current scientific research in Antarctica and introduced the scientific research experience of Xuelong 2 on its maiden voyage to Antarctica as a member of the 31st and 36th Antarctic expeditions. Yang Yang warmly shared with the students his scientific observations and humanistic thoughts during the Antarctic scientific expedition.

  

After that, the students actively asked questions in the interactive session. Wang Min, Liang Yantao and Yang Yang answered their questions about the Antarctic expedition, academic exploration and sailing experience based on their personal research experience.

  

Finally, Wang Min encouraged Haidestudents to broaden their international perspective, root in their feelings of home and country, and demonstrate their responsibility in actively participating in global governance.
