Hou Yitong is a 2020 undergraduate majoring in mathematics and applied mathematics in HaideCollege of Ocean University of China. He used to be the vice minister of the academic department of the student union of the college, and now he is the class study member. He has won the H Prize of the American College Students Mathematical Modeling Contest, the third prize of the Asia Pacific College Students Mathematical Modeling Contest and other awards.

Learning experience sharing

In the last academic year, my academic and comprehensive test results were the third in my major. I summarized the following experiences that helped me to achieve excellent results: First, I listened carefully in class, and on this basis I was diligent in thinking. After class, we should communicate and discuss with teachers and students, and deepen our understanding of the problem through extensive participation in the discussion. Secondly, we should reasonably arrange work and rest time to ensure good physical condition in order to improve learning efficiency. The last part is about exercises. We should do the exercises scientifically. When encountering problems that we can't do, we should think about them independently. It is really difficult to understand and then look at the answers. And looking at the answer does not mean copying the answer. We need to look at the answer, and then write the topic with our own understanding, so that we can internalize it and draw inferences from others. In a word, forgetting in the learning process is not terrible. We should constantly review and consolidate the knowledge we have learned, and at the same time pay attention to developing a good way of thinking in the learning process to improve our thinking ability.

Practical work

I used to be the vice minister of the academic department of the student union of the college, and now I am the member of the class study committee. In the daily work of student organizations such as the Student Union, we can accumulate relevant experience and improve our planning ability and organizational ability. At the same time, we can make more like-minded friends. However, you need to plan your own time reasonably. If you feel you can spare no effort, you can choose to join student organizations or societies such as the Student Union and Self management Association to enrich your after-school life and improve your overall quality.

Scientific research experience

I put more effort into the mathematical modeling competition. In the first semester of my sophomore year, I teamed up with two of my friends and won the third prize of the Asia Pacific Cup Mathematical Modeling Competition and the H prize of the American College Students Mathematical Modeling Competition through unremitting efforts. In addition, I also participated in an SRDP project.

It is very helpful for us to participate in various competitions during our college years. Participating in competitions can broaden our horizons. Whether it is a team competition or an individual competition, we can learn a lot of knowledge outside the classroom. At the same time, the relevant experience of the competition will also play a great role in the future award evaluation, overseas study, postgraduate entrance examination, job search, etc. So I encourage you to try bravely and actively participate in various competitions.

Recreational activities

Healthy interests and hobbies can make us love life more and cherish time. I like to play play badminton and often compare notes with my friends. Our group won the first prize in the badminton event of the small ball game last school year.

Physical exercise can strengthen our physique. If we want to cope with the heavy study life freely, a strong body is an indispensable strong backing. Physical exercise can also release pressure, so that we can have a healthy psychological state in our study life, which will certainly make our study more efficient.

Message

If you want to focus on something, you must be able to be interested in it, keep loving it, and be willing to study it for a long time. Otherwise, once you have passed the initial freshness, you will certainly feel painful about it. If you think the current learning content is not what you are interested in, you should go to more fields. When you get more involved, you will naturally know what you really like. Don't be afraid to start late. After all, everyone's starting speed is different. University itself is a valuable trial period, and we should not waste it.
