Pascal Quester, Executive Vice President of Adelaide University, Visits Ocean University of China

On the morning of September 6, Pascal Quester, executive vice president of the University of Adelaide in Australia, and a delegation of six visited Ocean University of China. President Yu Zhigang and vice president Li Weiran met with the visitors in the first conference room of the library. Heads of the academic affairs office, the school of information science and engineering, the school of marine life sciences, the school of food science and engineering, the school of engineering, the school of Mathematical Sciences, and the school of international education attended the talks. Director Song Wenhong of the international cooperation and exchange office presided over the talks.

Yu Zhigang first welcomed the visit of the delegation from the University of Adelaide, and reviewed some landmark achievements in the construction of Ocean University of China since visiting the University in May 2018 and signing the cooperation agreement. He stressed that the two schools have decided to cooperate in the fields of Geology and environment, life and food, information science, humanities and Social Sciences, and explore the establishment of Sino foreign cooperative educational institutions. He highly affirmed the excellent academic reputation and scientific research strength of Adelaide University in the above fields, and then stressed that these fields are also the internal needs of the development of China Maritime University, and cooperative scientific research and talent training meet the common development needs of the two universities.

Professor Pascale Quester expressed his gratitude to the school for its warm reception. She introduced the University of Adelaide, which was founded in 1874, has produced five Nobel Prize winners and is known as the eight universities, and said that the University attaches great importance to the overall development of scientific research and teaching. She said that president Yu Zhigang's visit in 2018 is an important period for the planning and development of the University. The University of Adelaide has set five goals to keep the university among the great universities of the world, and globalization cooperation is one of the most important goals. The cooperation between the University of Adelaide and Ocean University of China is very extensive and has great potential.

Li Xinqing, President of Australian education group, who accompanied the visit, reviewed the history of cooperation with Chinese universities, and pointed out that South Australia, where Shandong Province and Adelaide are located, is a sister Province, while Qingdao and Adelaide are sister cities. As important universities of the two cities, it is of great significance to strengthen cooperation between the two universities, hoping to contribute to the cooperation between the two universities. Professor Dong Junyu of School of information science and engineering, Professor Liu Chenguang of School of marine life sciences, Professor Liang Bingchen of School of engineering, Professor Meng Xianghong of School of food science and engineering, and Professor Zhang Linjie of School of Mathematical Sciences successively introduced the discipline setting and major scientific research achievements of each college.

After the talks, the visiting group of Adelaide University visited the laboratory of Professor Zhao MeiXun of the Institute of marine advanced research, School of chemistry and chemical engineering, Professor Zhao Jinping of the school of ocean and atmosphere, underwater intelligent sensing and Communication Laboratory of the school of information science and engineering, underwater robot laboratory, etc., and also visited the Ocean University of China, such as Professor Shi Hongda, Minister Tan Gongke, etc Accompanied by relevant experts and department heads of Qingdao Marine Science and technology pilot National Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as the marine pilot National Laboratory), we visited the Supercomputing Center of the marine pilot National Laboratory.
