On July 25th, the Open Day of Haide College of Ocean University of China was held in Laoshan Campus. Jing Chen, Minister of Student Services, Education Management Group, Australia, and Yilun Hao, Assistant Minister of Global Affairs and Partnerships attended the Open Day. The activity was presided over by Qin Shanghai, Party Branch Secretary of Haide College.
After online registration and in accordance with the requirements of the epidemic prevention and control normalization, more than 60 students who finished college entrance examination and their parents gathered at OUC campus. The University of Adelaide connected to the venue via online connection. More than 1,300 people watched the live broadcast via bilibili platform.
Zhigang Yu, President of the Ocean University of China, pointed out in the video message that Haide College is a joint school between Ocean University of China (OUC) and the University of Adelaide (UoA) approved by the Ministry of Education, with the goal of providing world-class faculty and courses and building the world-class international college. Besides, Haide College also focuses on cultivating innovative talents with international vision and Chinese feelings. He stressed that the university is confident to provide sufficient supports for students' intercultural communication ability, interdisciplinary integration ability, logical reasoning and innovative practice ability, as well as outstanding leadership through its strong alliance with Adelaide University, so as to lay a solid foundation for students'future development and create unlimited possibilities.
Mike Brookes, Acting President of the University of Adelaide, and Jacqueline Lo, Vice President of International Affairs, successively stated in their video speeches that the challenge that Coronavirus poses to the world also proves the importance of partnership. The establishment of Haide College has strengthened the partnership between Ocean University of China and the University of Adelaide. By focusing on the University of Adelaide’s international reputation and areas of expertise, it provides students with a transformative learning experience and a platform for international education, improves students’ cross-cultural communication skills and establishes important international relations that are conducive to career development.
Dong Junyu, Dean of Haide College, gave a comprehensive introduction of the college from aspects of its development history, professional setting, faculty and teaching resources, student education management, training mode, scientific research innovation, and advanced study advantages, and described the campus life of the two universities to students and parents. Lucy Anderson, Director of The International Cooperation Department of the University of Adelaide, introduced the basic information about the University of Adelaide and the idea of building Haide College online.
Focusing on a series of questions with high attention from students and parents on site or online, the college solved their doubts and interacted with each other immediately and effectively by answering questions on site and directly connecting with the University of Adelaide, which further enhanced the understanding and recognition of students and parents of Haide College. The open day ended with the melody of Love Like A Sea.
