The opening ceremony for freshmen of Haide College, Ocean University of China was launched in the Lecture Hall of Ocean Science and Technology Building, Laoshan Campus, Ocean University of China at 1: 30 p.m. on September 18, 2020. Zheng Youfei , Australian Education Management Group Vice President, and Senior Minister Xu Junliang of Academic Relations, with partners in Global Affairs Department Senior Minister Duan Yucai, Ocean University of China Vice President Li Weiran, Director of Academic Affairs Office Fang Qizhi , International Cooperation and Exchanges Department Song Wenhong , Haide Dean Dong Junyu , The Deputy Director of the Office Li Yun, The professional teachers and representatives attended the Ceremony. The Ceremony was presided over by Shanghai Qin, Party Branch Secretary of Haide College.
To commemorate the Mukden Incident, the college elaborately arranged the chorus Me And My Motherland before the ceremony.
The opening ceremony began with the majestic national anthem. First of all, Jacqueline Lo, Vice President of the University of Adelaide, Lucy Anderson, Director of International Cooperation, Simon Pyke, Vice Dean of Science, Wang Chen, Senior Project Cooperation Specialist of the Academic and Student Cooperation Division, and Yang Xiaoshi, International Administrative Affairs Specialist of the International Affairs Cooperation Department greeted the freshmen via video link.
At the ceremony, Professor Li Weiran, Vice President of Ocean University of China, delivered a speech. He expressed a warm welcome to the 300 freshmen of Haide College, and hoped that the students would be determined to serve the country, study with great concentration, cross-industry integration, self-cultivation and morality, develop an awareness of independence, and become masters with international vision and international competitiveness.
After that, Jacqueline Lo, Vice Chancellor of the University of Adelaide, warmly welcomes the class of 2020 to join Haide College via video connection. She hopes freshmen will study hard, and keep going, making a full use of their time at Haide College and prepare for the bright future.
Professor Dong Junyu, Dean of Haide College, gave a speech and introduced the college’s overall situation, talent training objectives and school-running characteristics. He hoped that students can make good use of high-quality international education resources and become excellent international talents through their hard but worthwhile efforts.
Afterwards, the video of the speech from the representative of the University of Adelaide to the ceremony was broadcasted. In the video, teachers and students from Adelaide shared their experiences in the university, hoping that students can have a meaningful time at the university and gain the future that they want.
Professor Li Changjun, Associate Professor Yang Xiuxia and Professor Liu Zunying made speeches respectively. They hoped that the student could study hard, have the courage to innovate, treat scientific research with a serious and rigorous attitude, actively participate in social practice and scientific research, and become comprehensive and outstanding talents with the heart of the country and the world in mind.
Wen Zhuo, a freshman representative doing the bachelor in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics of Haide College in 2020, delivered a speech on behalf of all juniors. The speech centered on the vision of university life and the responsibility of youth, and represented the new to praise the era and define the future by struggling, aiming high, striving for self-improvement, caring about the current situation, paying attention to development, and become an excellent Haide student.
At the end of the ceremony, the participants watched the video message of President Yu Zhigang to 2020 undergraduates. Yu hope that freshmen can adopt to college life as soon as possible, and gradually develop the ability to study independently and cooperatively, using the rich resources of the Internet to improve learning efficiency and quality, but at the same time develop self-control to combat junk information and fragmented knowledge. Meanwhile, instead of becoming a Learning Drifter, students should form a framework and a body of knowledge and read the classics. President Yu raise to students the ardent expectations of cherishing their time, working hard, learning and achieving.
All the class teachers, counsellors and 2020 freshmen of Haide College attended the ceremony.
